Everybody wins with the Y!
When we give of our time, finances and goods to the community, in reality we are giving back to ourselves and our future generation. Look at the history of our Lake Wales YMCA for example. (Link on our Home Page) Dr. & Mrs. Turner are deceased, but what they did while they were living is still nourishing the next generation, and the next. Our Child Care Center may be their legacy, but it will produce legacies all its own. Legacies in bright smiling faces and children learning to live and grow together. Living and growing together is what family and community are all about. Our facility, the land it is on, the wonderful aquatics program, all budded from generous gifts. It is our responsibility to use these gifts to the best of our ability. We lean on each other, we struggle together, we achieve together, and in the end, we laugh and we smile. Everyday, we are fortunate to see the gift of smiles on people's faces, whether it's a conversation with one of our seniors, the brightened face of an intern or a child when given a bit of encouragement, a mother giving herself time to workout or men who come to stay strong and fit. There is something here for every ONE. At the Lake Wales Family YMCA we have a golden opportunity to influence the youth that will keep Lake Wales the bright community it is, even as the population of Central Florida continues to grow. We can make a difference. YOU can make a difference. As the population grows, we will need more Dr. Turners. But without the Executive staff, our teachers, our instructors, our volunteers, a building is just a building. When each individual walks out with more of life than they came in with, that is truly a legacy. And each one of us can become a part of that legacy. We really do Build Strong Kids, Strong Families and Strong Communities. The people here really do have a mission and a philosophy. And in all the child care programs, after school programs, fitness programs, and more, there is time to fill, minds to fill and bills to pay to achieve that filling. Please approach our staff with your gifts and donations, your time and your skills. We all have a love, and sharing that love sparks in others the love of the same thing. If we each tap a little deeper, we can find that mission that is within us. We have kids and adults who would want to know how to hit a golf ball, how to grow a rose or an herb, how to shoot a jump shot. Have you spent any time with a child lately?
